ABOUT ME

English speaking guide / Waka KYOTO Guide

Who I Am

Hi! My name is Waka, pronounced “Wah-kah.” I am a Kyoto based private guide who has lived in the area for over 16 years. Born in Osaka and raised in Nara, I have spent my life in western Japan and developed a deep appreciation for the region’s history, culture, and everyday life.

My Background

I studied at a university in Kyoto and have also lived in English speaking countries such as Australia and the Philippines. Living abroad helped me feel comfortable connecting with people from many different backgrounds and perspectives, and it allows me to communicate naturally with international guests while sharing Japanese culture in a clear and approachable way. My background in translation has shaped how I communicate, helping me explain Japanese culture clearly and naturally.

My Guiding Style

I welcome travelers of all kinds and enjoy creating experiences that reflect your interests, pace, and needs. Whether you prefer to see well-known highlights efficiently, explore at a relaxed pace, discover lesser-known spots, focus on hands-on cultural experiences, visit spots loved by local residents, or travel with young children or older family members, I am happy to adjust each visit to suit you.

What I Hope

Through guiding, I hope to help you feel a little closer to Japan. If your visit makes you want to return one day, that would make me even happier. I enjoy meeting people from around the world and sharing meaningful moments through travel.
